Asphalt 9: Legends Review

Asphalt 9 Legends is the part of racing game series. You are probably familiar with one or two or all 8 previous editions of Asphalt. The production started in the 2004 year, and since then it changed platforms, were edited numerous time, and gained the popularity worldwide. New edition is not just a racing simulation, it is an arcade with extended options for maneuvers and advanced plot.

Graphics and Sound 9/10

Graphics looks way better than in the previous editions of Asphalt game. Designers have finally found a way how to make these cars look realistic. With a close look, you are able to see the dashboard of your car via the rear window. Based on your iOS device abilities, you can choose performance, default or high-quality modes. With the new editor in the game, you can change every part of your car. Even Asphalt 8 options were way too limited comparing with this one.

As for the environment picture, this game recreates it extremely well. The background scenes look beautiful and peaceful in some way. There are still places that can be improved after all. The noises from car engines are loud and realistic. And the variety of soundtracks is pretty good.

Controls 9/10

Asphalt 9 received several changes to controls. For starters, the game now offers default control, TouchDrive. It means you don’t have to learn how to drive your racing car. All you need to do is choose the pass. Basically, you’ll have to swipe left or right. Even if you disable this option, you still will be on auto-pilot. You can connect the controller, but still will be able only to turn, nitro and drift.

Gameplay 8/10

This is the game where iOS edition for mobiles is much better than PC. The main innovation in this game is the ability to use TouchDrive. It was made to let you concentrate on arcade than on the driving itself. You don’t need to steer anymore. You can choose routed, make double spin or rift, but you don’t actually feel yourself part of the process. You are just an observer.

The first levels are easy to perform. With the new experience, you receive more challenges. Some gamers feel disappointed during the first levels. However, they need to wait for a while. After first rounds, you receive the increase of difficulty. But if you get bored, you are always welcome to use your 15 000 credits and 50 Tokens on the upgrade of your car. You are racing through the Himalayas and San Francisco. But you still need to spend at least 5 minutes to fill up the fuel tank.

Lasting Appeal 9/10

If you survive the first boring simple levels, you will love the game. It has everything you wanted from races, including dangerous places to pass, like in crowded San Francisco. You can switch cars and try again.

Verdict

Asphalt 9 is a nice and entertaining racing game. It lacks the drive on the first levels and the ability to become a driver. Still, you don’t have to worry about controls anymore.

Pros:

  • Colorful graphics
  • Increased level of difficulty on the last levels
  • Easy controls.

Cons:

  • You don’t steer the wheel anymore.
